A journey to build pathfinder

A quick recap before its "remaster" development phase.

Pathfinder was build to test out a random generated maze, but as the development started by i realized that i have NO CLUE on where to start. So switching to random it would be a somewhat controlled "random" generated maze and puzzle game. primarily inspired by Myst, Syberia ,XON episode 1( the actual motivational peak when i developed this game) back on the year 2016.

The first version was released on google play store on 2017 as an early release and then the development sort of stopped. well at least it was still playable. Of course looking back and playing the game lots of area can be improved , excuse: lack of knowledge and experience. The game was release as an "early access" really don't know what correct words to put.

But looking back now even so, if i did not even start taking the first step this game would not exist! so fast forward to this year 2020 equipped with a little more knowledge its time to at least make pathfinder a decent prototype game or at least an attempt to make it a little better. So i dig back up a month back and start putting in the work and game myself a hard deadline. 1 month ~ with a week buffer.

Well that deadline of a month of development have approach, its time to say goodbye to pathfinder. bringing it up to date with better graphic, Extending gameplay and overall improving the gaming experience without redeveloping any major parts of the game.

Which i am very surprised that i can still maintain the JavaScript (js) core programing of this game. Because moving to newer version of unity JavaScript is no longer supported and is being replaced by C#. which is a little sad as i cannot practice programing in js, but looking forward into the future and extend my knowledge is always the best choice.

a quick summary repost.

Week 1 was primarily bringing all new asset into the game. rebuilding the environment, which was the key learning process of this "Remaster" or so to speak. and redo some of if not all the UI. Also cleaning up to be release under itch.io

Week 2, i saw a need in improving the gameplay, namely the puzzle and have started to figure out and test those new puzzle. Also taking time to do the set dressing aka adding detail to the game.

Week 3 however was quite interesting as building a level is very tricky as it was suppose to have an update on this week but guess you can call this a development delay.

Technically i have build the new level, but it was on a "blocking stage" and lots of gameplay test was needed to ensure smoothness in transition. and level design that "make sense" which is sadly not up to par just yet.

and so Week 4. Today 20(21~) days after its "remaster" debut pathfinder is now moved from development to Prototype! all the main aspect of the game i clean and optimized as best as i could and it work exactly as i want it to be. Apart on some certain aspect like better lighting.

That is something i need to continue practice on future prototype game as i wanted to push out more ideas!

note: minor updates will still be observed for pathfinder as i can easily revisit to add puzzles/test out more puzzle idea in the future.

ok done writing an essay. its time to release the game!
